Job Title: Fleet Mechanic
Organization: Big Bear Aggie Tech Energy Services, LLC
Brief Description:
A Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles.  The Fleet Mechanic is also responsible for the record keeping, preventive maintenance, and general inspection of Fleet vehicles.  This job requires the Fleet Mechanic to be knowledgeable in repairing and refurbishing of all vehicle types, from small engine repair to large diesel trucks, and gasoline trucks.

Key Tasks performed by the Fleet Mechanic:

  • Performing work involving lifting, pushing, pulling, and working with power tools.
  • Maintain the safe and secure storage of trucks and equipment.
  • Thoroughly inspecting and detecting any malfunctions and damages and repairing the same on vehicles.
  • Estimate time and cost of repairs and down time.
  • Recommending change of parts and other necessary services for vehicles.
  • Effectively coordinating work functions with fellow workers and other departments of the organization.
  • Conduct routine and regular inspections of all company vehicles.
  • Place orders and requisitions for parts while working with approved vendors.
  • Ensure equipment and vehicles are in safe operating condition.
  • Keep organized and routine maintenance documents on all vehicles.
  • Maintain a DOT maintenance log as required by Government and State regulations.


Qualifications:  To qualify for this position, an individual must be willing and able to safely perform the following activities.

  • Stand or walk for a minimum of 3.5 hours without being able to sit and while wearing steel-toed boots.
  • Lift and carry independently 70 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, twist and crawl throughout the work shift.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to perform a range of mechanical oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handled and long handled tools.
  • Clear vision to judge near and far distances to maintain awareness of watch, and report ongoing work activities to coworkers and third parties.
  • Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and machinery problems.
  • Accurate recall of information over short and long term memory.
  • Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around work environment with many moving objects.
  • Utilize hand signals and or signal flags to communicate with coworkers.
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills and ability to promptly follow directions.
  • Stay alert and focused up throughout work shift.
  • Take initiative and work independently during downtime.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times.
  • Be on time for all company events, training, safety meetings, special assignments, and regular shifts.
  • Keep and maintain a clean work environment, this includes all locations, work sites, company vehicles, and customer locations.
  • Participate in pre-trip vehicle inspections, and Job Safety Analysis, (JSA).
  • Conduct JSA (Job Safety Analysis) before each repair job.
  • Must have experience in automotive and diesel repair (large truck experience a must)
  • Some Computer skills
  • Diagnostic repair experience
  • Must have clear communication skills, an ability to translate, or speak Spanish a plus.

 
*Additional Details:  this position requires the person to work outdoors for an entire shift in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold, heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions.  They will be exposed to the typical conditions of the area where the Organization is located.  The Fleet Mechanic must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties.  They must be able to work closely with others as they will work together in confined work areas and under time sensitive deadlines.  They must be willing to work extended shifts that can include days, nights, and occasional overtime, as well as weekends and holidays.
